I've been asked a lot recently to suggest a laptop that's around $700.

This is the HP 15s.

Will this fit the right budget, delivering the right performance?

Let's find out.

Now, the HP 15s.

It's a sweet little machine with an aluminium external.

Looks good from probably all angles. It's slim.

It's like me, heavier than it looks around £3.7.

So once the laptop is booted, apps are loaded, the fan will start relaxing.

And believe me, here on, things starts looking better.

I mean, the whole look and feel makes it look premium.

Once opened, it doesn't feel like a $700 laptop.

Certainly has a premium touch to it overall.

Now, some design renovations are obvious.

On the top and bottom you have aluminium,

and inside you have plastic, which looks like brushed aluminium.

When you open it up, it can lead up to 140 degrees, so careful not to snap it.

Thankfully, the frame is slimmer on sides

with a HP True Vision camera, which is way better than usual cameras on the laptop.

So the chassis feels solid.

It's a well built laptop.

You have a full keyboard with NUM pad.

It's comfortable to type on,

not very tactile, have an adequate key spacing,

really clean, and keys have a softer feel altogether.

Similarly, the touchpad has matte, greenish feel to it,

which does reduce friction and makes it more accurate and snappy.

Now, we have a 15 inch IPS panel, which is about 214 inch bright.

Decent for indoors and outdoor usage,

as long as you're not directly facing the sun.

Now, I would recommend this to someone

who's looking for a color accurate screen with higher sRGB.

It'll be RGB color spaces for the rest of us.

This is good enough with the decent contrast ratio for presentations,

artworks, web design, good decent black to white color

production and excellent viewing angles for the performance.

Has an eight GB of Ram installed on a single slot.

You have another slot and the memory is expandable up to 64 GB with 232 GB Rams.

 

However, installing upgrades will require professional assistance.

 

So if I was you, I would choose my preferred Ram or hard

disk size right at the time of purchasing this laptop.

You do have a Force 512 GB Mvme Two,

which makes booting up the system and your apps to load faster.

Single core on this is stable, but we do have a throttling on multicore.

Overall results are convincing enough

for daily applications as well as mid load applications.

All goes smooth with fans this time, quite or even for 2 hours straight.

Now, for games you can play Fortnite

and CS go on decent frame rates with low to medium settings.

So this may require me to flush clean

the laptop and remove all pre installed HP software and bloatways install a fresh

copy of Windows and see what the cause of hiccups was.

in almost all day to day tasks, and even with high loads,

it hasn't surpassed an uneasy threshold for me to be keeping this on my lap.
